Painting a Colorful Life in the Silent World

Source: Date:2013-07-10

He did not know what a note was, because he had never heard any sound in the world; he did not know what a murmur was, because he had never spoken a word; but he never gave up his dream of a good life because of his deafness and muteness. He was proactive and danced out beautiful melodies on the stage of life and career.

Chen Ying, born in 1971, lives in Honggang Community, Shushan District. Until she was four years old, she never spoke a word. Her parents took her to the hospital for a checkup and found out that she was both deaf and mute. Despite seeking medical help in many places, there was no improvement. As she grew older, Chen Ying gradually realized the difficulties of communicating with others.
Chen Ying didn't want to live a mediocre life because of his physical disability. At the age of 19, he went to work at Hefei Light Machinery Factory and began to learn computer knowledge. Whenever he encountered difficulties, he would turn to computer experts around him for advice and seek solutions at the provincial library. Through his hard work, he won the first place in the 2006 Annual Vocational Skills Competition for Disabled Persons in Hefei City for multimedia product production, among other awards.
People often say that when God closes a door for you, He also opens a window for you.
Although Chen Ying's world is silent, he is particularly sensitive to colors. He particularly likes painting and photography. In 2009, his photography work "Night Scenery of Ancient City" won the third prize in the calligraphy, painting, and photography exhibition held by China Building Materials and Light Industry Machinery to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. In his spare time, Chen Ying likes to play basketball and ride a bicycle. On Sundays, he will go to the deaf gathering point in Lüfengjin to provide some care and assistance to the deaf and mute people within his ability.
